Should my bone structure be worse if a tooth that should’ve been there isn’t?

Q. Hi, I\’m missing my second pre molar due to it not growing through when my last baby tooth came out when i was 21. I am 2 months in to braces and I\’m curious as to how long I should wait before I look into consultations? I am aware my teeth will need to be in their fixed positions before treatment can go ahead. I\’m also curious as to whether bone structure is generally worse or better for not having an adult tooth there in the first place? My first molar next to my missing tooth was removed a few years ago, but my second molar is going to be moved into it\’s place. Could this movement help with the bone stucture?,
A. Thanks for your question. I would discuss your ongoing treatment with the dentist and orthodontist that are carrying the treatment out. Normally a case like this would be planned in conjunction with the dentist doing the implants and the orthodontist to ensure that the most appropriate result can be achieved. Bone levels are assessed using x-rays and this would be done as part of consultations. Regards George Glover
