How Much Do Lower Fixed Dentures Usually Cost And Can My Normal Dentist Do It?

December 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi Kalpesh, can you help me please? How much do lower fixed dentures cost and can my normal dentist do it? I am worried about getting lower dentures and it not staying in place or falling out. I have only got a few lower teeth and they are quite rotten/ bad. I already have top denture. I have been brave and gone to dentist but feel so ashamed and embarrassed because I’m fed up getting abscesses, etc and I want to be confident again when I smile. I would be grateful for any advice or information you can offer me. Thank you.

Would teeth extraction eliminate recurring abscess?

January 19th, 2014
Q.

I have two problem teeth (one either side of the upper front two) that have been root canal filled but routinely abcess (once/twice every year). Each time I get on a course of antibiotics to clear up the infection but suffer pain for several days before the abcess clears. My dentist has rec ommended extraction but I dont really want dentures and cant have a bridge as I already have one for the front two teeth and cant extend anymore. My questions are: (a) will extraction definitely eliminate the abcess? (b) can I still have abcsesses even after an implant? I have been suffering abcesses for several years and now want a long term solution that doesn’t involve dentures!

I’ve had my tooth removed because of an abscess, will the abscess heal up on it’s own now or do i need antibiotics?

August 19th, 2013
Q.

Dear Dr Moore,
I had a filling fall out quite some time ago, stupidly I left it like this and my tooth eroded away leaving only a small amount visible. Yesterday I noticed a slight swelling on the gum above the tooth I phoned my dentist and they seen me today and removed the tooth. What I don’t understand is if this is the end of the problem? Will the abscess just go away by itself now the rotten tooth has been removed. I am pregnant and do not want any infection to harm my baby. Should I have been given antibiotics or will I be ok just gargling salt water and keeping the area clean as my dentist instructed me to do.
Thank you for your help!

My new implant looks longer than my other teeth, what can be done about this?

October 21st, 2012
Q.

I have recently had a single implant retained crown fitted to my left central incisor and a cerec porcelain crown fitted to my left lateral incisor following an accident.

When my central incisor was removed an abcess was discovered which meant i had some artificial bone inserted and left to heal before the implant was placed.

Now the implant has been fitted it looks considerably longer than my right central incisor, which my dentist says is due to gum recession. I am really unhappy with how this looks and want to try and find out if there are any procedures available to correct this as i do not want one front tooth which is longer than the other?

Many thanks

I have an abscess and think my tooth will need to be extracted, do you have any advice?

August 21st, 2012
Q.

Dear Dr Moore,
My two front upper teeth were root canalled around 3 years ago and I am currently in the process of having NHS veneers but now I have an abscess. I’ve taken a 7 day course of 250mg amoxicillin. I have an appointment with an endodontist soon to see if he can do a re-root canal. But I think in all likelihood my teeth will have to be extracted. So I’ve been researching implants. I have many questions, please could you try to answer them:
1) If my teeth are removed can the hole be filled with a bio-scaffolding like Alverlac? I’ve heard this stuff is good for preventing bone loss.
2) how long will I have to wait to have implants after having my teeth extracted? I’ve heard implants can be placed in the jaw straight after having the teeth removed, is this correct?
3) I believe my gums are quite thin but think they are healthy as I don’t smoke and I’m in good general health. Although, their not ‘bouncy and thick’ looking. Which I’ve heard is preferable for successful implants. Will this be a problem for implants and will you be able to see them through the gums? Or will I have to have a soft tissue graft? And if so how much would this cost and where exactly in the mouth would the tissue be taken from?
4) Have the course of anti-biotics I’ve taken been enough to have killed some/ if not all the bacteria. Or do they just stop the bacteria from spreading?
5)How do you know if you have a good amount of bone in the upper jaw for implants? Is there some kind of average measurement?
6) I’m a student but have a part time job which consists of 20 hours. I was wondering could I pay for my treatment through a dental finance loan company such as Medenta (so I’ll pay a monthly sum for 12 months or so) or are these types of loans only available to full time workers.
7) If I can’t get the loan I’ve worked out it will take me about a year to save for two implants. In the meantime I really dont want to have my teeth extracted (because of the whole bone loss thing and cosmetic appearance). So if I leave the abscessed tooth for the year will this be a problem? Will it cause any ill effects? I’ve already taken anti-biotics. Will I have to take more?
8) If the crown on the implant needs to be replaced what would be the cost? Would it be a similar cost to having a crown on a natural tooth? Or be more expensive?
9) Is it worth having a re-root canal? I’ve read these can cost in excess of £500 and there not always successful. Will it really make a difference? or like I said could I just leave it and save for 12 months for implants?
I know its a lot of questions and of course you havent seen my case but if you could answer my questions it really would help. Thanks.

March 18th, 2012
Q.
Hello Dr Fahey. Can you please assist. I recently had a tooth extraction done after an infection and an abscess but there is still a bump there which is still yet to be gone away. My dentist has told me that it is bone deformation and that it will go away eventually, but i also wanted to have an implant put in to replace the existing tooth. In your professional opininon, do you think i wlll be able to and if so how long do you think it will take? many thanks for your time.,

I DIDNT USED TO BE SCARED OF THE DENTIST MY PREVIOUS DENTIST HAD BEEN THERE FOR 15 YEARS BEFORE IT GOT TOOK OVER. I WAS CONSIDERING AN IMPLANT BUT NOW AFTER ANOTHER CRACKED TOOTH I THINK I WILL NEED TWO.ARE ANY OF THE FIRMS ADVERTISING CHEAP UK IMPLANTS ANY GOOD? I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE ME. Root canal has failed and dentist says tooth extraction is only option. Give your opinion?

December 22nd, 2011
Q.
Due to stress I had a antibiotics to remove an abcess, with temporary filling then root canal after. My tooth felt fine during the months with the temporary filling but after the root canal felt wobbly and intermittently painful. After a year and a half the dentist has told that the next time I say the tooth is painful he will remove it. Obviously I went through the root canal in order to keep the tooth. It is very painful now, I would like a second opinion as I feel my dentist is disinterested and just wants to do what is easiest for him. I am on very low income.,

Can I get implants put in for a lower denture as the conventional denture does not stay in well?

September 24th, 2011
Q.
For the last five years I have been wearing dentures upper and lower except for two lower teeth which are still my own. It broke my heart to have had my teeth out, but this was due to my gums receeding. I have had an abcess on my own lower two teeth left and I know I will have to have these out. I would like to have implants put in as a lower denture as the conventional dentures don\’t stay in well especially the lower ones. Can this be done and how much I\’m looking at, can you help me.,
