Why am I Still Having Problems 6 Weeks After Treatment?

June 8th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Glover. I recently had an implant retained denture, and was aware that they take quite a long time to get used to. It’s been 6 weeks and I’m still struggling. I gag when I eat and my gums keep bleeding, and my mouth feels sore. I have made an appointment with my dentist for two weeks time but I’d just like a bit of advice before I go. Why do you think I’m still having problems?

My Gums are Bleeding Following Implant Treatment, What Should I Do?

June 7th, 2015
Q.

Hello, I’m hoping you can give me some advice. I had my implants put in about 2 months ago and am aware that they take long than this to fully heal, but my mouth is in a lot of pain. It hurts to eat or even open my mouth, and the gums are bleeding quite a lot.My dentist hasn’t been brilliant when it comes to giving me advice on this, all he does is tell me which pain killers to try. What do you think I should do about this?

I’ve Opted For An Implant Retained Denture, But I’m Really Struggling. I’m Gagging All The Time. What Do You Think My Dentist Will Say?

September 4th, 2014
Q.

Hi Nick. I opted for the implant retained denture and knew it was going to take a while for me to get used to it. But I’m really struggling, it’s been 2 weeks and I feel like I’m gagging all the time, especially when I eat. It’s so painful and my gums are bleeding slightly. I’m due to see my dentist next week but would love a bit of advice before I go. What do you think he’s going to say? I don’t want to go another 5 months without teeth! Thanks for your time.

Is it normal for the area where I got implants to still be bleeding and painful?

November 6th, 2011
Q.
I had implants placed with crowns to replace my older crowns which were on there now. But I am concerned because I am in quite a ot of pain and there is bleeding from the lcoation where the implants were placed. This doesn’t seem right, I would value your opinion.,

If the area where I had gum grafting and a dental implant bled whilst brushing my teeth, should I be concerned?

November 6th, 2011
Q.
Hi. I had a dental implant with gum grafting around it placed (tooth #7 I believe right next to my front tooth) six days ago. Tonight when I was brushing my teeth I guess I made contact with the implant area and there was slight bleeding. Nothing feels loose is this a problem? It quickly stopped bleeding. Stitches look to be still in place.,

I am getting a dull ache from the gum area around my implant but there is no inflammation. Should I see my dentist?

September 17th, 2011
Q.
Hi. I had an upper lateral incisor replaced by an immediate implant a year ago, and up until now have had absolutely no problems with it. However, I have recently noticed that the area above the implant is sore – by this, I mean when I apply makeup, or facial cream, I notice slight discomfort over the area, like it is bruised. I then noticed that if I there was any slight pressure on the gum above the implant, it would bleed down around the tooth. I have no other areas of gum bleeding and am very careful with my gum care (flossing, interdental brushes etc.) I also use a water pik, and have noticed it is very sore when it washes around the implant. However, the gum does not look inflamed, and the implant is still rock solid. I am now aware of a dull ache occasionally. Do I need to go back to see my implant dentist? Thank you.,

Why did implant fail? Am I allergic?

July 15th, 2011
Q.
My dental implant on my anterior #9 has failed. The implant was originally placed in my mouth roughly 5-7 years ago. I do not smoke, and I take very good care of my teeth. I recently went back to go see my periodontist due to puss and infrequent bleeding of the implant gum tissue. The puss and bleeding in the gum could not be controlled no matter what I tried. I went back to my periodontist to try and fix this situation, but unfortunately the implant could not be saved. My periodontist says the implant failed due to a breakdown of the hydroxyapatite coating on the implant. He tells me that the breakdown of the hydroxyapatite coating on the implant caused an allergic reaction that lead to the degeneration of the bone in the infected area, and thus causing the inflamed tissue. When the implant was removed, he said that there was no bone left in the area, and that the implant was held in place by inflammed tissue. I have recently had a bone graft done, and will likely need another one. My questions are this: How do I know for sure this is the reason that the implant failed? Or was I allergic to the implant metal itself? Or was it something else? Is there a test I can require him to perform to find out what I am allergic to? How do I know that the next implant wont have the same issue? Being that my implant is in the very front of my mouth, I am very insecure about the way it looks. Is another implant still the best option for my situation? Or is a bridge a better option for my case? My periodontist isn\’t keen on doing a bridge because the two teeth on either side of the area have never been touched, or even had a cavity. It would mean filing down to perfectly healthy teeth. Please help. I feel lost and I am not sure what I should do next.,
