I would like an implant where my tooth is missing but the bone has receded, what should I do?

May 21st, 2011
Q.
I had a front tooth out 10 years ago and had a bridge across the front 4 teath. The 3 teath that hold the bridge have had to have pins put in them to hold the bridge. I want to have an implant put in the missing tooth, however the bone has receded to the point where there is a fairly noticeable shallowness oif the gum and that means that the top of the tooth (on the bridge ) potrudes out a little and to get rid of that by sinking it to the gum would not look right. 1/ how can the gum be brought back out where the tooth has gone so my gums look like they did when I had all my teath, and also, what would I need to do with the other 3 teath to have stand alone teath at the front again? thank you for your help.,

Am I a candidate for a bone graft?

May 12th, 2011
Q.
I am 39 with advanced gum disease i have complete dental bone loss at the far bottom end of my mouth, currently i still have the healthy tooth being held in by only gum. Could i be a candidate for a bone graft and if so would it be possible to save the tooth? My mother was pragmatic about dental hygeine and never smoked and still had to get all her teeth removed at age 41. I am hoping with advanced treatments my fate will not be the same. Many thanks for your time.,

Three dentists have told be different things. What should I do?

May 12th, 2011
Q.
Hello i\’m a bit confused, i\’ve been to 3 different dentists regarding implants and all three have told me different things. I have two missing front teeth and bone loss is apparent so it may be a struggle to receive implants but also my two teeth next to the missing ones are decayed and may need to be removed also. One dentist said that the bone was fine and I can have two single implants. One said they other two teeth need to be removed and then i need a bone graft and he\’d decide on the implant type and one said he couldn\’t do anything because i\’d suffered too much bone loss! What can i do??,

I’m terrified about the bone grating, how long will it take before I can get back to work?

May 8th, 2011
Q.
I have been missing two lower teeth for many years and now my bridge in this area is failing. It has been recommended that i get a bone graft from my ramus and have it inserted in the area prior to having two implants inserted. I am terrified! How painful is the bone graft and harvesting procedure? How long will I need to rest before returning to work? Is the success rate good for this type of graft?,

At what age can someone receive a dental implant?

May 7th, 2011
Q.
My son lost his front tooth in a bicycle accident at the age of 11.He is now 16 and has just had a maryland bridge fitted as a temporary measure because he can\’t go on wearing his retainer with an artificial tooth all the time.(he\’s in the retainer stage of orthodontic treatment)I\’ve been told he needs to wait until he has fully grown for an implant at about 18 or 19 years old. This seems to be the best route, although his orthodontist said the trauma to his upper jawbone has left limited room for an implant and mentioned bone grafts, etc. This all sounded a bit horrific, so I then thought of a bridge later on instead.Would an implant be the best thing? What age?How do I choose a reliable dentist in our area(Peterborough). If I have to pay to get the best for him, I will.He has already had private orthodontic treatment to get the best from his teeth generally.I\’m finding it hard to get any real answers from anyone and people tell me conflicting things.Thank you for your time and help.,

Do I need to do the grafting before putting in the crown or can all that be done after the crown is placed?

April 8th, 2011
Q.
I had my implant done about 8 years ago. About 2 years ago my crown was replaced, unfurtunally when replacing the new crown to much cement was used and caused several infection until it was desided to be removed. Has since then had a smaler bone craft done and now a year later would like to get my \”tooth\” back (upper front) I undrstand that I do need additional boone and gum graft to restore what has been reduced by infection. My question is: Do I need to do the grafting before putting in the crown or can all that be done after the crown is placed? My implant has never been remopved and has been and is solid.,
