I Need an Implant Replacing, Will Bone Grafting Work?

June 13th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Fahey, hope you can help me. I’m a 52 year old female, I don’t smoke and am in good health. I’ve had a back tooth implant for 9 years, but it has small bone loss and feels sensitive and a bit sore where the gums are exposed. My dentist has suggested gum and bone grafting, but I’ve been doing some research and have read a lot about it either being an impossible procedure or having a very low success rate. Can you offer me further advice to help me come to a decision?

My Dentist Won’t Refer Me For Implants. What Shall I Do?

June 11th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Bohara, I’m hoping you can give me some advice about dental implants. I’m a 55 year old male and have visited two dentists at separate practices within the NHS, and both have decided to remove my problem teeth but neglected to discuss with me the options of dental implants and such. I now have 5 missing teeth and would ideally like implants. I’ve been to see my nearest implant specialist but he says I need to be referred by another dentist, and my current one is adamant I have dentures. I’m not happy with the way the missing teeth make me look. I’d be grateful to hear your advice.

Is the Success Rate of an Implant Related to the State of the Surrounding Teeth?

May 3rd, 2015
Q.

Hey. I’m just wondering, is the success rate of a dental implant in any way related to the teeth surrounding it? I have a missing tooth, and the two teeth beside is are not in the best condition, though I don’t want to get rid of them. Will keeping them in place affect how successful the dental implant would be? Thanks.

I’m Worried My Teeth Will Keep Falling Out Due to Gum Disease and Implants are Expensive. What Can Be Done?

April 24th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Fahey. I’ve been receiving treatment for gum disease over the last few months. I had a filling about 4 weeks ago, and following it I’ve had a severe toothache, and the tooth is so loose I think it’s going to fall out. I really don’t want a plate fitted, and I’m terrified that my other teeth will start to fall out too. It’s frustrating because I thought I was getting rid of the gum disease! Now, if my teeth do start falling out, and I pay for just the one tooth now, I might have to keep getting implants and obviously this is going to cost me more and more with each tooth. My dentist isn’t saying much on the matter which winds me up even more. Can you help me?

Should I Get Mini Or Full Dental Implants?

April 2nd, 2015
Q.

Hi there, I wonder if you can help me to make a decision. I’ve been to 2 consultations regarding dental implants after having an accident in which I lost 3 teeth. One dentist suggested I have mini implants whereas the other guy said full implants would be best as I don’t have enough bone to support the mini implants. So obviously now I don’t know who to go with. What do you think?

Will My Father’s Dental Implants Look Natural?

March 16th, 2015
Q.

Hello Dr Glover. I’ve recently paid for my father to get some of his teeth sorted and he’s due to have three dental implants fitted but he’s starting to have second thoughts. Is there any way his dentist can manage to calm him down before he has them? Will they match up correctly and look natural? He’s worried about looking stupid. I hope you can provide us with information on this. It would really be helping us out. Thanks.

I’m About To Have An Implant Put In. Will It Hurt?

March 15th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr McGovern. I’m about to have an implant put in as I have a missing tooth. I’m pretty scared of dentists and tend to get a bit panicky when I go, so I’m really nervous now!! Will it hurt? I’ve got a low pain threshold so I’m scared it’s really going to hurt me. And will my mouth swell up afterwards? I don’t want that!

Is There Any Technology That Allows For Implants To Be Placed In Under One Month?

March 14th, 2015
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I am a healthy 19 year old individual, and I need 2 tooth implants. The teeth I require are the first and fourth incisors, and I need a long term solution. I understand the procedure of dental implants using titanium screws and have been advised that this is best option for me. I am asking you whether there is any new technology that would allow dental implants to be put in in under a month, using the titanium screws? Also, what would the possible advantages and disadvantages of this technology be, compared to the procedure that takes approximately 6 months? Thank you.

Is It Common For Healing Screws To Come Loose?

March 8th, 2015
Q.

H Dr. Moore, I have a question for you. My partner has just had healing screws fitted as he is having four implants placed. He is waiting to have final treatment in two weeks time when the gums heal. He was biting into a sandwich and felt that one of the healing screws had come loose. Is this common, and can it be replaced? Does it mean that the gum has rejected it? Will this delay the final treatment? He had the implants put in 9 months ago. Thanks in advance.

What Kind Of Long-Term Stability Do Implants Offer Compared To Other Missing Teeth Treatments?

March 7th, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Glover. I’d really like to know what kind of long term stability implants offer compared to other treatments for missing teeth? I had a nasty accident recently which left me feeling very worse for wear but I won’t go into much detail. It has left me with a big, unsightly gap in my teeth which I feel very self-conscious over it and I don’t like to smile any more as it makes me look like a football hooligan. Is it a painful procedure? Thank you for helping me with this.
