Have I had dentures for too long to be able to get implants?

February 4th, 2012
Q.
I was unlucky enough to think I was going under anesthetic to have loads of fillings when I was fifteen. To my horror my parents had been convinced that I needed all my upper teeth removed, which is what I woke to find had happened. so I have had a full denture since then and am now 50! still have a terrible fear of dentists and have not seen one for twenty years through shame as well as fear. have I been with dentures for too long to be able to have implants? or at least implants to secure a better denture? HELP!!!!!!,

Are there any cheaper options to get implants as quotation is too much?

February 1st, 2012
Q.
My friends mum had some work done on her teeth in the past and its completely ruined them she is in pain but she is to embaressed to see someone, she has been told to sort them out will cost £31,000 but she can’t afford it. She is really depressed about them and my friend really wants to help her. Is there a cheaper option to get implants, or even will she be able to claim compensation for what she had done in the past? Kind Regards,

Is there some way loose denture can be made stable enough to eat with properly?

January 16th, 2012
Q.
Hi, I have had a top plate denture for some years and a bridge across the front 7 or 8 teeth on the lower gum. However, for some years I have only had 2 or 3 of my original teeth left in place. Eventually the lower gum became so worn that part of the root became visible, and needless to say I picked up infection after infection. In January of this year following another infection, I visited my dentist who told me I would need to have the bridge and remaining teeth removed and a full set of dentures made. I expressed my concern around being able to keep the lower denture in place, but despite this my dentist assured me that I would have nothing to worry about. I needed him to reassure me several times before agreeing to the treatment. This work has now been done, and guess what, no matter what denture adhesive I use, the lower denture comes out every time I eat. Clearly my gums have worn away over the years (I am 59 years old), but cannot keep going with a denture that continually becomes loose after 2 or 3 hours or every time I eat. Also, I find it extremely difficult to get used to this lower denture as my mouth always feels full of a foreign object. I would like to know if there is some way to either fix my lower dentures in a way that makes them stable enough to eat food, or some other alternative. I realise you would probably need to examine my mouth, but can tell you now that much of my gums have worn away over the years. Is there any possibility at all that something could be done? Many thanks,

Will getting denture retained with mini implants stop food from getting stuck?

January 14th, 2012
Q.
I have new lower denture (whole set) about to be retained by mini dentures next week. I have a worry though. food or tablets get inside plastic gum (underneath tongue) and lodge up into the denture underneath false teeth. Is this something that cannot be resolved or perhaps is it the result of the denture being ill fitting?? Many Thanks,

Would the NHS fund implants in my circumstances?

January 11th, 2012
Q.
8 years I got attacked which left me with no from teeth, i now wear a denture i’m now 33. over the years the denture has rubbed and wore and way some of my other teeth, I currenlty have 5 on my plate(origanlly it was 3) and now it has started to wear away another one of my teeth, i am scared my the time i am in my 40’s i will have no upper teeth of my own. I am currently on income support. and i am wondering if implants are avaliable on the NHS, as i have read that in some cases you can have them. Thanks,
