I’m considering having an implant on my right front tooth, I’ve had 2 consultation which do you think is the best option?

July 17th, 2013
Q.

I am considering having an implant on my right front tooth due to the post / core RCT root starting to fail (after 25 years). I have had two consultations with two specialists and one is saying he would be prepared to do an immediate implant placement following extraction with the final restoration 3 months later, but the other is saying he does not want to do this and will extract, wait 3 months and then place the implant. Which do you think is the best option, as i have read that immediate loading / placement can cause problems such as gum recession after placement and can be challenging to create a good result in the aesthetic zone? Perhaps worth noting is that i had crown lengthening surgery about 3 years ago prior to the replacement of my front crowns. Also, as both my front teeth are crowned can i have a fixed temporary restoration during the healing phases of the implant placement? I know i should have asked them these questions but i ran out of time at the consultation and just want an unbiased view. Many thanks in advance.

My teeth look longer. Is this due to gum recession. Could I get implants?

May 1st, 2012
Q.
I am considering having the remainder of my teeth removed and full dental implants fitted. I would like to know how many implants are necessary to support full ceramic bridges for both upper and lower jaw with 12 teeth on each. I am asking as I have conflicting advice about this. Another concern that I have is that my own teeth appear very long presumably due to receding gums and I would like to know if this can be improved with the new crowns. I do not want to end up with teeth that look as long as they do now. I look forward to your reply. Thank you for your time.,

Is there some way loose denture can be made stable enough to eat with properly?

January 16th, 2012
Q.
Hi, I have had a top plate denture for some years and a bridge across the front 7 or 8 teeth on the lower gum. However, for some years I have only had 2 or 3 of my original teeth left in place. Eventually the lower gum became so worn that part of the root became visible, and needless to say I picked up infection after infection. In January of this year following another infection, I visited my dentist who told me I would need to have the bridge and remaining teeth removed and a full set of dentures made. I expressed my concern around being able to keep the lower denture in place, but despite this my dentist assured me that I would have nothing to worry about. I needed him to reassure me several times before agreeing to the treatment. This work has now been done, and guess what, no matter what denture adhesive I use, the lower denture comes out every time I eat. Clearly my gums have worn away over the years (I am 59 years old), but cannot keep going with a denture that continually becomes loose after 2 or 3 hours or every time I eat. Also, I find it extremely difficult to get used to this lower denture as my mouth always feels full of a foreign object. I would like to know if there is some way to either fix my lower dentures in a way that makes them stable enough to eat food, or some other alternative. I realise you would probably need to examine my mouth, but can tell you now that much of my gums have worn away over the years. Is there any possibility at all that something could be done? Many thanks,

What are the risks associated with gum recession and implants in terms of the bone?

January 8th, 2012
Q.
I need about 5 implants done. I am (only) 38 and know that my gums will recede with ageing. If the gums recede past the implant line then i assume this is a problem and that the implant will need replacing. What are the risks accociated with this in terms of long term structure of the bone etc. How easy is it to replace implants later on if there is excessive gum recession?,
