I am thinking about getting my top crooked teeth extracted and replaced with implants. Is there an alternative?

November 22nd, 2013
Q.

I am female in my late 50’s. My two biggish front teeth seem to slope backwards and all other front teeth seem to slope forwards so the the lateral incisors stick out badly. A few years ago an orthodontist said I would need lower (I think) jaw surgery before any braces could be fitted. I didn’t go for this. I also have ‘highly restored’ teeth as one dentist put it and have a few crowns and have had a few root treatments. Also some top teeth at the side now look dark and unattractive. My four top incisors are healthy teeth but I’m wondering about getting the top crooked teeth extracted and replaced with implants to improve my smile. Is there any alternative? It is all beginning to affect my confidence badly.

Would it be worth getting a mini implant to replace my dental bridge?

June 2nd, 2011
Q.
I have been attending the glasgow dental hospital for the past year since my bridge fell out. I was hoping to get an implant but the space is too small for this. therefore I am getting a bridge. However, I would much prefer something more permanent and wondered if it would be worth looking into getting a mini implant through a private practice. Since I was born without this tooth I am entitled to free treatment through the NHS but the process has taken a considerable amount of time and I am eager to get a permanent resolution rather than another bridge. They have not mentioned a mini implant so not sure if this is not available through the NHS. to be honest the whole process has been a nightmare and I would really like a permanent solution that is not too costly as I am only 21 years old.,

At what age can someone receive a dental implant?

May 7th, 2011
Q.
My son lost his front tooth in a bicycle accident at the age of 11.He is now 16 and has just had a maryland bridge fitted as a temporary measure because he can\’t go on wearing his retainer with an artificial tooth all the time.(he\’s in the retainer stage of orthodontic treatment)I\’ve been told he needs to wait until he has fully grown for an implant at about 18 or 19 years old. This seems to be the best route, although his orthodontist said the trauma to his upper jawbone has left limited room for an implant and mentioned bone grafts, etc. This all sounded a bit horrific, so I then thought of a bridge later on instead.Would an implant be the best thing? What age?How do I choose a reliable dentist in our area(Peterborough). If I have to pay to get the best for him, I will.He has already had private orthodontic treatment to get the best from his teeth generally.I\’m finding it hard to get any real answers from anyone and people tell me conflicting things.Thank you for your time and help.,

Would my daughter have to have her teeth removed and then have dental implants?

January 23rd, 2011
Q.
Hello Dr Glover. I am writing on behalf of my 18 year old daughter who has baby teeth still for two of her teeth. They are receding back into the gum and the dentist has suggested getting them removed. Would you say this is necessary or can they stay there. Also, seen as this is an implant website could you tell me if implants would be a good option if she does have teeth removed?,
