I Cut My Gum A Year Ago But Now It’s Very Sore. How Can I Get Financial Help To Fix This?

October 16th, 2014
Q.

After cutting my lower gum on a French stick a year ago it overgrew as it healed. It’s very sore when biting into any toast. My dentist said I just have to put up with it but it is impossible to brush near it and it has worsened now. Would a gingivectomy help? Can I get periodontist help through the NHS? It is making me miserable when I eat. I never had any fillings or gum trouble before and I have seen my dentist for two 6 monthly check ups and both times he’s said there is nothing he can do. Without my dentist’s help, how would I get an NHS referral? I imagine privately will be very expensive.

Why did implant fail? Am I allergic?

July 15th, 2011
Q.
My dental implant on my anterior #9 has failed. The implant was originally placed in my mouth roughly 5-7 years ago. I do not smoke, and I take very good care of my teeth. I recently went back to go see my periodontist due to puss and infrequent bleeding of the implant gum tissue. The puss and bleeding in the gum could not be controlled no matter what I tried. I went back to my periodontist to try and fix this situation, but unfortunately the implant could not be saved. My periodontist says the implant failed due to a breakdown of the hydroxyapatite coating on the implant. He tells me that the breakdown of the hydroxyapatite coating on the implant caused an allergic reaction that lead to the degeneration of the bone in the infected area, and thus causing the inflamed tissue. When the implant was removed, he said that there was no bone left in the area, and that the implant was held in place by inflammed tissue. I have recently had a bone graft done, and will likely need another one. My questions are this: How do I know for sure this is the reason that the implant failed? Or was I allergic to the implant metal itself? Or was it something else? Is there a test I can require him to perform to find out what I am allergic to? How do I know that the next implant wont have the same issue? Being that my implant is in the very front of my mouth, I am very insecure about the way it looks. Is another implant still the best option for my situation? Or is a bridge a better option for my case? My periodontist isn\’t keen on doing a bridge because the two teeth on either side of the area have never been touched, or even had a cavity. It would mean filing down to perfectly healthy teeth. Please help. I feel lost and I am not sure what I should do next.,

July 1st, 2011
Q.
I am now into my early 60s and even though I have kept a healthy diet not drinking red wine and other things like that my teeth are of a nasty colour. My dentist has said that this it just ageing which I think is not very good. I also have receding gums and can sometimes get bleeding gums. I have suffered from gum disease for years. What treatment would you recommend, as my dentists says I should keep my teeth?

June 13th, 2011
Q.
Hi, I have for about 10 years had a gum disease problem, I am told it\’s heredity. My gums are very sore and with regular cleaning by my dentist I find my teeth are getting more sensitive to cold and generally are quite sore to brush and floss. I hate the look of them and feel I should get a fixed restoration to put a final stop to the problems I am having. What would you recomend I do? where should I go to get the treatment I need?. My dentist tells me to hold on to the teeth, but I feel am fighting a loosing battle.,
