Would I have to get my four teeth replaced with implants at once, or can I get one done and the others down the line?

October 3rd, 2011
Q.
Dear Dr Solanki, I have root canals in four of my front teeth, one of which is causing problems and needs to be removed. I have been advised by my dentist that the other three teeth will need to come out eventually but should last another five years or so before this is necessary. I am being advised to get all four teeth extracted and the implants put in place all at once but to me this seems a bit extreme. Is this method preferable rather than just having one implant inserted then having the neighbouring teeth done a few years down the line? Obviously I want to hold on to my natural teeth for as long as possible and am worried about the cost of four implants as opposed to just one. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks ,

Would a dental implant be suitable for a tooth which has undergone several failed root canals?

September 29th, 2011
Q.
Upper molar had 3 root canals in past few years but now it has been decided that tooth needs removal. The teeth on either side of the tooth in question have no problems with them so would you recommend an implant for this? Then a crown to go with it? Any ideas on the cost I can expect?,

My new crown was attached to a 30 year old post which has now rusted. What choices do I have now?

September 23rd, 2011
Q.
I had a root canal done on an upper tooth almost 30 years ago and a crown fitted. 2 years ago I had extensive work done including implants on my upper teeth and had a new crown fitted onto the root canal tooth for aesthetic reasons. The new crown has now come loose and has come out. The new crown was fitted to the 30 year old post and core which consists of 2 tiny screws which have come loose and are attached to the new crown. One of the screws has rusted! Should my dentist have fitted the new crown to the old post and core or replaced it and what choices are open to me now?,

My dentist has recommended I have my painful tooth removed but I don’t want to. Is there any other option?

September 18th, 2011
Q.
In 1998 I had a root canal procedure on my bottom right back molar.A crown was fitted. 3 years ago I experienced pain underneath this crown and my dentist prescribed antibiotics. 2 more \’pain episodes\’ followed, approx once a year the last one 2 weeks ago.My dentist is of the opinion that the root canal has failed and that to avoid these infections extraction should be considered. I am reluctant but do not wish to possibly keep on taking antibiotics. Any thoughts. I have had the tooth x-rayed now and am due for extraction on 14 December.,

Filling has come out on root canalled tooth and dentist says I now need an implant. Is this normal?

August 26th, 2011
Q.
2 years ago I had a root canal done on my top left tooth (no 5 I think). Since then the filling has come out and the tooth has broken, Now my dentist is telling me I will have to pay for an implant. I want to know is it normal for this sort of thing to happen and shouldn\’t the tooth have been capped or anything when the root canal was done?,

Would having a dental implant prove to be a solution for my problem?

June 27th, 2011
Q.
Hi I had a root canal done last year that I have now found has not been done properly. To have this fixed I have been told it is possible that the tooth may get cracked as the filling has to be removed and the work all redone, in addition to getting a new crown. I was wondering if having the tooth removed and an implant put in place would be a solution to this problem, and what sort of timescale would be involved. Thanks,

Had a bad dentist in the past, would a bone graft be able to rebuild gum?

June 18th, 2011
Q.
I had a really bad dentist 10 years ago who root canaled nearly all my bottom teeth then had them extracted..i didn\’t know any better at the time. Now l only have 5 bottom teeth (the front ones). I am 36 years old and have basically no bottom gum and my face is appearing really withdrawn rom the lack of support. I understand the danger of having implants because of the nerve positioning of the bottom jaw. But is there anything l can do to rebuild the gum…would a bone graft risk damage to the nerve? Thanks ,
