The Gum Underneath My Implant is Swollen. Why Might This Be?

Q.
Hi there, thank you for taking the time to read my question. I am a 46 year old female in good health. I had 2 upper implants fitted 6 years ago, and although they’ve been great up to now, the gum underneath one of them is swollen and quite painful. I’m able to eat things without much discomfort and the gum doesn’t appear to be bleeding but I would like to know what’s wrong. I’d really appreciate any advice you may have. Thank you Dr McGovern.

Hello, thank you for contacting me with your issue. From what you have described it sounds like some kind of infection, so I would suggest you go to your nearest clinic as soon as possible to get it looked at. I hope this helps, and good luck!
