Q.
Hello Dr Fahey, I’m wondering if you can help me. I have two implants that are around a year old. They have been perfect for me up until a couple of days ago. I was eating a boiled sweet and crunched it against one of my implants. At the time I didn’t notice anything but it appears that there is a slight crack in the implant. It hasn’t caused any issues so far, however I don’t want it to in the future. Do you think it will be fine or should I head back to my dentist to get it checked out? What could potentially happen? Look forward to hearing from you, thanks.

Hi there, thank you for your question. I suggest you head back to your dentist and get it looked at. It may be fine, but it could gradually get worse and you don’t want to go back in 5 years with a piece of the implant broken off and have to tell them that you noticed a crack 5 years earlier!
