Told I can not get implants but I hate dentures – any help?

Q. I visited my dentist about implants but he told me that my bone is not strong enough and that I would be unable to get them. I had dentures but they were horrible and gave me a great problem eating. Is there any help for me?,
A. Hi thanks for your question. It’s difficult to give you a clear answer without a detailed consultation. Generally speaking there needs to be enough bone to support the dental implant, bone can be lost for a number of reasons such as gum disease or when a tooth is lost the bone will naturally remodel. It may be that bone augmentation procedures may be required and would then allow for implants to be placed. The best thing to do would be to have a consultation with a dentist who has experience of complex cases with dental implants. It’s likely that you’ll need some x-rays and possibly a CT Scan which will allow the dentist to assess the bone levels. I hope that this helps. Regards George Glover
