Q. After my NHS dentist wanted to remove a ‘loose’ crowned’ premolar, I have recently paid privately for a second opinion. The result was the replacement of a ‘short’ post, root canal treatment, and a new crown, which was very costly. I have subsequently been told by another NHS dentist that this is also loose to ‘stage 1’ and I must take care not to bite too hard on it. Have I reason to feel there has been a lack of expertise in the private dentist?
A. I can’t really tell from a description only, you should go back to the dentist and ask what has happened.
