Would an implant be harder to place in my jaw if I have a plate?

Q. Hello Dr Glover I have to have a dental plate to replace a tooth which is being extracted. If a couple of years down the line I decide on an implant instead would this still be possible or would it be harder for the implant to be put into my jaw? many thanks,
A. It will really depend on how much bone is available for the implant to be placed. When a tooth is removed, the bone in the area is resorbed as it no longer has a purpose. This happens at a different rate in everyone so there is no hard and fast rule. But assuming you don\’t leave it for too long then it may remain an option for you in the future.
