Should I wait until crown fails before getting implant?

my dentist said when i had a missing tooth that i could either get a crown or an implant. at the time (about two years ago now) i decided to go with the crown as i could not afford implants. Now i can afford implants but am unsure whether it is best to just wait until the crown needs replacing. It is hoplding up well according to my dentist so what would youa advise?

How long is a dental implant supposed to last? I know crowns are supposed to last about 10 years or something like that but what about the implants? Also, what factors may shorten the implants life?

How much do tooth attachment add to cost of implant?

I never realised before that the dental implant just goes down to the bone and does not actually include a tooth top that shows when you open your mouth. How much would a crown add to the price of the dental implant? Any other options other than a crown?
