Is an implant having to hold two crowns a bad idea due to stability?

September 28th, 2010
Q.
Hello. I had 2 implant placed last week to hold 2 crowns on each. I\’m still waiting for them to heal but a bit weary, I\’ve just been informed that an implant to hold 2 crowns isn\’t really a good idea because there isn\’t enough stability. What should I do?,

Is it normal that when I had my implant placed a chisel rather than drill was used?

September 28th, 2010
Q.
Dear Nick I had an implant fitted recently and was surprised that a drill was not used to make a hole for the implant but instead the bone was chiselled out (quite alarming!) Is this normal practice?,
A.
No, not usually

My daughter is too young for an implant yet, but I am worried the bone level will decrease and implants won’t be possible. What can be done?

September 28th, 2010
Q.
My daughter is not old enough for implants yet but will be in a could of years. She has had bad teeth since I can remember and I feel very badly for her. She is currently missing two teeth but I am worried that the bone volume will go as time goes by and the possibility of implants may decrease. What can be done to ensure the bone remains in good shape?,

I don’t understand how the implant is placed. Can you explain it for me please?

September 27th, 2010
Q.
I don\’t understand how an implant is placed. Does the dentist replace the root also? Or does it go directly into the jaw bone? Can the root of the tooth be re-made rather than having to go through bone grafting etc etc?,

Crown keeps falling out but dentist says this is because tooth was filed down too far (done at her practice). Please could you advise me?

September 27th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Fahey I had a crown fitted roughly a year and a half ago, I am feeling upset because it has come out at least 18 times in that time and has never felt right. My dentist say\’s that the tooth has been filed down too far, which was filled too far down in her practice. I am desparate to get this sorted out, but all the dentist does is put it back until it comes out again. Please could you advise me. Thank you so much. Kind regards. ,

I am considering implants as a more permanent measure when I replace my old dentures, but I don’t want a bone graft. What are the chances I will need this?

September 24th, 2010
Q.
I have dentures in and they\’re due to be replaced because I\’ve had them for a while now and they\’re pretty ruined. I\’m now 73 and I am considering dental implants as a more permanent measure. I am in a healthy state. However I\’m worried that I may have to go ahead with a bone graft. What are the chances of this happening at my age?,
