What can be done to treat my decayed tooth caused by trauma?

Q. Hi, I had a chipped tooth about about 2 years ago, because of this my tooth decayed over the time and there was a big hole in the tooth. I have not called a dentist over that period, but recently this tooth broke out. the root of the tooth is still in the gum, I can see it but it is decayed looking. I do not know what procedure involving for treatment. I wonder could you please advice what can be done to replace the falling tooth. Kind regards,
A. hi, many thanks for your email, its sounds as if the tooth has broken down and if all that is left are the roots then your only option will be to have the root removed. once this has been achieved and the area has healed your options are: 1: to leave the missing tooth, and live with the gap, this may not be beneficial as it could cause drifting of teeth next to or above the gap. also you may also miss the tooth for function ie chewing. 2: place a dental implant into the area, which would be a recommended option as it will be a tooth in its own right. it is also one of the most long lasting treatments which can be done in your mouth. 3:dental bridge, not recommended as if the two teeth on either side of the gap are healthy, using these teeth to support the floating tooth over the gap could be detrimental in the long run for the two teeth causing them to die or weaken. eventually leaving you with a larger gap to deal with. hope this information is helpful.
