Is it possible to pay for implants on a monthly basis?

Q. I had an accident in august 2008 where I fell and smashed my two front teeth onto concrete, which obviously broke. I had caps put on and root canal treatment on the teeth, however a year later they started throbbing. I went back to my local NHS dentist and they said I had an infection in my gums and put me forward for a hospital referal where my gums would be opened and the infection cleaned out (acute mucosal infection). The gentlemen doing my operation said I should think about long term teeth rather than having the caps replaced as they won’t last me til I’m 35, I’m 23 at the moment. Basically he suggested implants, and now I want to know about costs, can a dentist do this and have my paying them back monthly, and after my operation how long do I leave it until I sort out the implants? I just want this sorted and finished now as it’s been going on for a year and a half. I hate the waiting game. If you could give me some advice, tips etc… Thanks
A. Hi thanks for your question.

When teeth are damaged through trauma it’s extremely difficult to say what the long term prognosis will be.  In many cases root canal therapy and porcelain restorations work well so long as the underlying tooth root remains stable as root canal therapy can weaken the tooth.  Crowns and veneers etc don’t last forever unfortunately and may at some point in the future require to be replaced.

It may be that if you are experiencing recurrent infection that the long term prognosis of the teeth is not good and that implants may be a solution for you.  Implants vary in price from dentist to dentist but generally budget in the region of £2000 per implant as a guide.  Many practices do offer payment plans such as interest free or low cost finance patient loans to help you spread the cost of the treatment.

It would probably be wise for you to have a consultation with an Implant Dentist to discuss your treatment concerns.  If you’ve had x-rays taken then it’s often useful to take copies of these for your consultation.

I hope that this helps.

Can I get bridge to replace unstable bridges?

Q. Dear Dr Moore I have had a bridge fitted at the front as my two front teeth were knocked and became very unstable. I am considering implants but I’m not sure if that can happen now I have had a bridge . What is the procedure ? What happens to the two teeth that have been filed down to support the bridge .Plus what are the cost implecations , how long does it last . Apologies for al of the questions
A. The implants are still possible if there is still enough bone, verifiable with xrays or a ct scan. The bridge will normally be replaced and the implants fitted followed by the fitting of a temporary bridge. The 2 teeth adjacent to the gap will be crowned at the end of treatment.

What cost will bone augmentation add to implants?

Q. Hi, I have just decided (after a 3 yr decision process) to have dental implants but I have now been told that I will need bone augmentation. What does this mean to me in terms of cost, recovery time and failure of the implants. Many thanks.
A. Augmentation will increase the cost from £300-1200 in most cases depending on the amount required to rebuild. Recovery time is increased and there is a slight increase in failure of the implant.

What would be the cost of an implant and crown at your practice?

Q. What is the typical price of a dental implant at your practice Dr Fahey? Also enquiring about a crown attachment price as well? How long would this treatment usually take at your practice including recovery time and what not?
A. It all depends, and without a consultation of your specific situation and requirements it is hard to be categorical on this. I would say our back teeth start from £2500 and our front teeth start from £2850, these prices are complete with crown and with a 5 yr guarantee (providing you follow a few basic instructions like regularly seeing the hygenist etc…)

What is your opinion on dental implants abroad?

Q. A friend mentioned to me that prices for implants abroad can be cheeaper. i am not all that sure about going abroad or this quite invasive treatment and was hoping for some advice from a respected professional such as yourself?
A. It can be cheaper especially if treatment goes exactly as planned, however if any complication occurs it may mean further trips and expense. When the prices are quoted it is often for an implant not avaliable in most countries, a bit like buying an ‘own brand’ cheaper version. When you actual copare recognised makes f impants the cost is actually not much differnet. I would personally pay to have my treatment from a  local well respected dentist and have the security of knowing things can be sorted out if problems occur

How much would it cost to have implants to replace all teeth?

Q. I want all my teeth yes all my teeth replaced with dental implants and whatever tooth attachment you think it best but what price am I looking at. I am hoping imlpants can give me something of my old life with a lovely smile after years of not giving my teeth the attention they deserved! Thanks,
A. Hi thanks for your question.

To have all your teeth removed and replaced with implants is a fairly drastic step.  There may be other treatment options available to you.

All practices charge different fees, but as a ball park guide for full arch implant retained bridgework you would be likely to spend upwards of £15,000 per arch.

As I say this may not be the most appropriate treatment option for you.

The best thing to do would be to have  consultation with a dentist who can look at your dental condition, disucss what you hope to achieve and then work with you to build a plan for moving forward.

I hope that this helps.

My dentist told me I will need bone grafting but what is the cost?

Q. my dentist said I will need bone grafting to get implants but how much will it cost?
A. Umm… Which type of bone grafting do you need? Single tooth? Upper jaw? Lower jaw? Whole mouth? It really depends starting from a few hundred up to several thousand pounds if there is a hospital stay.
