Hi. I am 22 years old, and I have 3 missing teeth. One of them really affects my confidence. It’s the upper left 1st bicuspid i believe. I don’t smile properly because when I do, it shows and I really don’t like it. The other two which are missing are the lower left and lower right 2nd molar, which makes chewing on either side quite difficult. I was considering having a bridge, until my dentist told me it might affect the health of the surrounding teeth. Initially, I would like an implant in my upper tooth, but it sounds quite horrific. I get a little anxious with some dental work. I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind: Would I be under general anaesthetic during the implant? How much would it be likely to cost for the 1 tooth? How long do they last? Does all of the implant need replacing, or just the crown/denture that goes over the top. I am considering saving some money to get it done because it really effects my self-esteem. I lost that tooth when I was 17, but only had the root removed last year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve had composite filler to fill up the gap (still abit of a gap near my gum to keep it clean) but my dentist said i’ll need a fixed bridge or implants in the near future..I’ve heard about the mini implants & prefer the sound of them so far but i’m not sure if i’m the right candidate for them..Please can i email you a picture before my composite filler to see what you suggest please?..I wish i never had the piercing done,my teeth were lovely & straight before this happened, i just want to choose the right procedure for my problem.. please help! Kind regards

Hi Dr Moore I fell over last Monday and have sustained a horizontal crack in 1 of the teeth directly next to my 2 front teeth (not sure of the name sorry). My teeth are perfectly healthy but the crack is horizontal right across the middle of the tooth just on the gum line. My dentist said it needs to be completely removed!!! And recommended having an implant. Is this my only option? Can’t the tooth not be saved?! And if not how soon do I need the procedure? I am due to go on holiday in 2 weeks to Thailand for 3 weeks. Can I leave the procedure of tooth removal and implant till then? Many thanks for your time une reading this. I am massively gutted about the whole incident so any help or advice would be greatly received. Thank you

I need to replace my missing tooth, what are my options and what problems would occur if I just left the gap?

February 5th, 2013
Q.

Dear Doctor, I have had a pre-molar extracted from the right side of my mouth after having root canal treatment which couldn’t save the tooth as it had decayed too much. I now have a gap within my mouth. What ar emy options going forward? I’ve read up about dental implants but don’t know what the cost of having a dental implant for just one tooth would be? Can you provide a rough estimate? Secondly, are there any options for replacing this one tooth other than a dental implant? Finally if I decided to do nothing and lived with the gap will it be detrimental to my other teeth? Regards

Do you recommend a dental implant over a bridge for replacing a missing tooth?

January 30th, 2013
Q.

I had a root canal filling on one of my back molars (I think it’s tooth number 3) about 10 years ago. It now has bacteria in it and I have been told I can either have the filling replaced or have the tooth extracted. My dentist told me having another root canal filling may not last and I may have to have the tooth extracted in another few years, so I may as well have it out now. What do you think? I am 21 years old. Also, if I do have it extracted, should I opt for a bridge or an implant? I can’t really afford an implant so was going to opt for a bridge, but I have just read that apparently they only last for about 10-15 years and can make the healthy teeth either side painful. So would you recommend I just opt for another root canal filling? It seems like a bridge isn’t a better option after all? I would really appreciate your advice!! Thank you very much.

I am 18 years old, can I have All on 4 dental implants to replace my broken teeth?

January 30th, 2013
Q.

I Absolutely hate my teeth, I’m always ashamed to smile or talk around people because I don’t want them to see my teeth. I have had 17 fillings in 14 different teeth. I’ve broken two of them into pieces and my dentist just stuck them back together with a filling. My teeth are extremely painful for anything hot or cold and I can hardly use metal silverware because it sends a shock directly to a nerve that was exposed before the metal filling in two separate teeth. Dental problems run in my family as is, my mother’s two bottom front teeth never grew in after she lost her baby teeth, and she now has full dentures at age 35 because of some bone disease that made them slowly fall out or something. My father’s teeth are all rotten and cavity infested, even though he brushes his teeth multiple times a day. I really don’t want to end up like that, and I want to fix the problem before it worsens to the same level as my parents. I want to be able to smile and speak confidently, and to be able to actually eat like a normal person. I was wondering if implants would be an option at my age, (18 years old) and if it is possible to have all of my teeth extracted and replaced with implants at the same time. I was looking at the clear choice website about the all-in-4 procedure. Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Should I use braces or implants to close a gap in my smile?

January 23rd, 2013
Q.

I would like to have implants on my bottom row where I have four teeth missing ( two on the left and two on the right side of my mouth, the spaces are in the same location). I am also considering having braces to close the gaps between my lower teeth (on the bottom row). Can these treatments be undertaken one after the after and if so in what order? Can these treatments be done at the same time during the period that the implants are healing? Can braces be attached to teeth that have had implants, or should this be avoided? What would your recommendation be? Also as a result of the missing teeth, the tooth in the upper level has grown longer as if it is trying to fill the lower space. How will this be corrected when replacement teeth have been implanted; is this undertaken during the implant procedure?

Is there any way I can have dental implants for my mobile teeth?

January 16th, 2013
Q.

I visited my dentist a few days back and was told that I have lost 8-9 mm of jaw bone (probably due to grinding of teeth and diabetes). Now it seems my teeth are hanging by the roots. 2 of my teeth are mobile. I am 40 years old and the dentist has recommended removing 7 teeth and going for laser root planing. I am told that the amount of bone left is not sufficient for implants. I am not looking forward to wearing dentures at this age. Is there a way to save the mobile teeth first using any grafting technique. Also is it possible to regrow the jaw bone in time o save the rest of my teeth and also hopefully udertake implants at a later stage. Money is not a concern but I’d like to save my teeth.

My dental implant treatment was unsuccessful, will I need to have a bone graft?

January 16th, 2013
Q.

i recently went for four titanium implants which were inserted but woul not bite into the bone so when it was attempted to insert the screw to the implant the implant merely turned with the screwing action. The bone appeared to be to soft for the implant to grip. The implant could not be screwed deeper due to the location of my sinuses and nose, I would like to know if there is an alternative implant that would overcome this problem preferably without the need of bone grafting and given that the problem is soft bone would bone grafting be any use anyway.
