I am suffering from TMJ as a result of braces treatment gone wrong. Can you advise?

June 1st, 2011
Q.
I am currently wearing braces and have 4 missing teeth due to extractions. My bottom teeth were straight but in my opinion after treatment with braces they are now more worser. i have been told that i will have implants on the NHS, but my treatment has been ongoing for years and now i have been told that i will have another minimum of 2 yr before completion. I also have developed TMJ symptoms, due to the reposition of my bite, but although the dentist and consultants aknowledge this they do not refer me to a maxillofacial surgeon, which is only 1 floor below them in the hospital. I do not understand why this is? There are now moments where i am being told that i will recieve an appojnment by letter but none arrive, for months until i enquire over the phone. i feel that i am being neglected and on top of all that more damage is done to my teeth than is good. I am going to complain to the PCT and the chief executive of the hospital. i would however like advice on what i should do to help my TMJ. and if i can be referred to another dentist which can carry out my work under NHS funding?,

Is there any alternative to invasive treatments I have been recommended for bone loss?

May 31st, 2011
Q.
Hello Dr Moore. I thank you for taking time to consider my enquiry. I was reffered to a periodontist by my dentist as I told that I have quit a bit of bone loss. During my consultation I was told that for being 30 years old 30% bone loss is bad also considering I have short roots, I am at loss for losing my teeth prematurely. I was told I will need to have a bone graft placed as well as some proteins that will help in regeneration. Are there any other alternatives that are not as invasive and costly but that have similar results? Thank you for your time.,

Can my child get dental implants on the NHS to replace submerging teeth?

May 25th, 2011
Q.
Hello Dr Andrew Moore. My son is ten years old and has six permanent teeth that are missing and that will  not erupt. Soon he is going to have ten primary teeth removed as some are now submerging. He is under a restorititive and orthadontist consultant at the National Health Servicve. They have not been forthcoming on the future treatment and what may eventually happen at this stage of time. Is there a chance that he could have implants as he has an incisor and a canine missing within the six missing. What is the situation on dental implants and the NHS? Do the NHS perform implants on children due to cost and age? Thank you for your time.,

What should I expect to pay for single tooth implant for my UR4 tooth?

May 20th, 2011
Q.
My upper right 4 was removed today. Options provided by my dentist are a single denture (which I do not want) or using UR3 and UR6 as the support for bridging across UR4&5. Cost estimate for the latter on my plan is £1,600. What would I expect to pay for a single tooth dental implant for my UR4 (my dentist does not provide this service)?,

Should I opt to have implant bone graft in your opinion?

May 18th, 2011
Q.
I have three implants together on the lower right side of my jaw done 17years ago. The middle implant is failing with the gum and bone receeding. Two dentists recommend the same treatment ie remove middle implant and fit new bridge across the three implants. However one dentist recommends an implant bone graft while the other does not as it would be of no use. I,m in the experts hands as to the answer. The bone has considerably receeded under the middle implant but not seriously affected the implants on either side however the steel is visible. My question is? Do I have the implant bone graft or do I allow the bone to rebuild naturally as far as possible. I look forward to hearing from you..eamon,

Can I replace all my teeth with implants because I have gum disease?

May 17th, 2011
Q.
Dr Moore, I am currently suffering from gum disease; it has now reached the stage where I am starting to lose teeth. I have already lost three teeth from my top jaw and have a further one now loose. I have a plate with the replacement teeth but find this denture set uncomfortable and un-hygienic, is it possible to have all my teeth replaced with permanent implants and would you please let me have an indication of the cost for this procedure. Many thanks in advance. ,

What are my options when my teeth fall out due to periodontal disease?

May 11th, 2011
Q.
Hi, I have been petrified of dentists for years so have avoided going at all costs, but over the last year i noticed the gap and gum between my top front teeth was getting bigger so i plucked up the courage to go and see my local dentist. Once there she gave me an xray and said I had periodontal disease very severe, since then I have been back for her thoroughly clean them and remove any tartar that has built up but she has now told me that chances are i am going to lose my teeth by the end of the year (they could fall out) as you can understand this has scared me as I am only 32 and she doesnt seem to be giving any form of advise as to what I can do to a) stop it getting any worse or B) if they do fall out what can be done, I understand I am with an NHS dentist but was wondering what options I would have if I went private as i dont really understand what you price list means, if you could give me any advose I would be very grateful. Many thanks ,

Should I get implant immediate loading or have longer healing time?

May 3rd, 2011
Q.
I currently have a bridge on my front teeth this was fitted 15 years ago when i had the two front teeth removed. I have decided to have implants as the bridge has failed and the supporting teeth are infected. I have had two consultations, the first dentist said that the teeth would be removed and due to the fact that i have a high smile line i would wait 3-6 months for the site to heal. Then the implants would be placed and then there would be another 3-6month wait before the permanant bridge could be fitted to the implants. During this time i would wear an adhesive bridge. This seemed like a long time so i had a second consultation with another dentist, this time i was told that the teeth could be removed and the implants placed with immediate loading of temp teeth for 3-6 months before permanant bridge fitted, despite telling the dentist that i do tend to grind and clench my teeth when sleeping. I am now very confused as to which is the best option as both dentists have advised such different methods. I have read that immediate loading can be quite high risk of failure because there should be no movement as the area is healing. I just assumed that i would have implants placed straight away then wear a temporary bridge that does not put pressure on the area that is healing. Any advice, i don’t want to end up paying for another consultation.,
