Can children receive dental implants?

Q. Can children have dental implants? My daughter broke her tooth last week in a bike accident and it has to be extracted. She is 13 years old, thank you Dr.,
A. Thanks for your question. It\’s extremely rare for children to have implants placed. The primary reason is that while they are still growing and developing the facial features change. If this is something that you are actively considering then you would really need to see an experienced dental implant practicioner for advice. In the meantime discuss with your daughter\’s dentist the long term plans for restoration of the space. Thanks George Glover BDS MSc
