Will drinking and smoking affect the dental implant healing process?

A. Hi. Smoking and drinking will more than likely extend the healing process. At our practice we recommend that anyone who smokes stops before undergoing Implant Treatment as it can affect the treatment process. Smoking and heavy drinking can also contribute to other dental health concerns such as periodontal disease and an increased risk of oral cancer as well as many other potential systemic health problems.
