I Pulled Floss From My Tooth And Heard A Crack. My Dentist Says I Have TMJ. Could I Have Fractured The Crown?

October 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr,
Four months ago I was flossing my teeth and the floss got stuck under my tooth with a crown. I pulled it out carefully and heard a crack. I didn’t have severe pain. But I started having dull pain about a few days after, plus, jaw pain, neck pain and ear ache. Went to the dentist and he said it was TMJ—okay— did all the recommended TMJ treatments. Plus, I had a physician I knew who gave me an antibiotic after the treatment which did not work for a week. I stopped all TMJ treatments and started taking the antibiotics. After the antibiotics everything went away. Four months later– it’s back. My dentist still says TMJ. But I wonder if the crack I heard caused a fracture under my crown. I continue to have dull achy pain next to the jaw area, and right ear pain (now burning at times) and muscle tension to neck and shoulder. Hope you can help. Thanks for your thoughts.

I Cut My Gum A Year Ago But Now It’s Very Sore. How Can I Get Financial Help To Fix This?

October 16th, 2014
Q.

After cutting my lower gum on a French stick a year ago it overgrew as it healed. It’s very sore when biting into any toast. My dentist said I just have to put up with it but it is impossible to brush near it and it has worsened now. Would a gingivectomy help? Can I get periodontist help through the NHS? It is making me miserable when I eat. I never had any fillings or gum trouble before and I have seen my dentist for two 6 monthly check ups and both times he’s said there is nothing he can do. Without my dentist’s help, how would I get an NHS referral? I imagine privately will be very expensive.

My New Implants Need Time To Heal But I Can’t Eat Or Drink And My Dentist Isn’t Helpful. Should I Seek A Second Opinion?

October 9th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I had my implants placed around 4 weeks ago. I know you’re supposed to give them at least 6 months to heal but this is impossible. I can’t eat a thing, I can’t open my mouth, my gums are bleeding and my dentist is offering me no advice. He keeps brushing me off and just keeps recommending different pain killers. I don’t feel he’s being very attentive at all. Can you please offer me some advice regarding this matter? Should I seek a second opinion? Thank you.

After Dental Implant Treatment, I’ve Experienced Gum To Jaw Discomfort. How Long Does It Take To Heal?

October 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Bohara, I could really do with some good advice from a professional such as yourself. I lost my tooth around 2 months ago, and my dentist put an implant in two weeks ago. But it was inserted a little deep, so it touched the nerve. He removed it and put a short one just 3 days after.
The numbness from bottom left teeth, gum to jaw give me discomfort. I hope it’s not permanent damage, but wonder how long will it take this nerve damage cure? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide me with.
