Pain is worse after artificial bone graft. Is implant problem one that will resolve itself?

December 22nd, 2011
Q.
I had a dental implant following root canal treatment on my front tooth which went wrong. The area under my nose remained sore even afer a few years of having the implant. I kept returning to the implant centre and was told everything was okay, however a few months ago I again returned and was informed that I would need an artificial bone graft. This was carried out 3 months ago. I have more pain than before now and the gum line has receeded showing some of the metal of the implant. It is uncomfortable and sore. My dentist said to see her again in 6 weeks and she would consider sending me to the hospital (which I requested). I’m concerned about returning to the implant centre as I have been going for around 2.5 years and the problem has just worsened. I have three questions really. If there is damage to the area can it be repaired? – I can’t sleep at night sometimes because I am worried that it will deteriorate so badly that I lose all my top teeth and the bone too. The second question is who can I turn to for advice as soon as possible to stop any further problems? My last question is – could it be just normal to be experiencing such discomfort – should I just wait longer for it to heal. Many thanks for your time ,

Root canal has failed and dentist says tooth extraction is only option. Give your opinion?

December 22nd, 2011
Q.
Due to stress I had a antibiotics to remove an abcess, with temporary filling then root canal after. My tooth felt fine during the months with the temporary filling but after the root canal felt wobbly and intermittently painful. After a year and a half the dentist has told that the next time I say the tooth is painful he will remove it. Obviously I went through the root canal in order to keep the tooth. It is very painful now, I would like a second opinion as I feel my dentist is disinterested and just wants to do what is easiest for him. I am on very low income.,

What is the best option to replace snapped front tooth crown?

December 21st, 2011
Q.
My two front teeth have both got crowns fitted on to my original teeth, but one of these teeth have snapped. can you please tell me the best option to replace it with a permanent fixing. I also had a crown fitted with a pin in on the tooth at the side of the crown still in, but this tooth only stayed in for two weeks. I also would like to know if it would be better to replace one tooth or all three.,

On disability benefits and need help with teeth that are crumbling away. Can you advise?

December 21st, 2011
Q.
I have SLE & Sjogren’s & have been taking Hydroxychloroquine for 12 years. My teeth are literally crumbling in my mouth & frequently break whilst eating. My dentist just pulls them out rather than fixing them & now I only have 17 teeth left. This is making eating very hard & painful & I’m very concerned about more snapping. Is there any way I can my teeth repaired properly on the NHS instead of having them extracted. I am on disability benefits & have been told that as I have an illness that affects oral hygiene I may be entitled to free or reduced rate treatment. What would you advise? Would a dental school be able to help me?,

Would my son be able to get dental implants on the NHS?

December 18th, 2011
Q.
Hello, My son had an injury to his two front teeth six years ago when he was six years old. His two front teeth went up into his gums. We have been advised that he will need specialist root canal treatment on both teeth and eventually he will need implants when he is an adult. My question is whether this procedure can be offered on the NHS or is it more of a specialist area? I can’t seem to get a straight answer. Could you help? Regards ,
