Is it okay to leave tooth gap or should I get an implant?

Q. Due to an infection within a root canal /crowned lower molar tooth my dentist has proposed extraction, bone graft and implant. I am planning to go ahead with extraction and graft due to the risk of infection spreading, but unsure yet of implant. May just try living with the gap – do you strongly recommend against this, and why?,
A. Its best to fill the gap for functional and cosmetic reasons. Putting in a tooth will also prevent drift of the opposing and adjacent teeth
