Am I a suitable candidate for bone grafting and dental implants?

November 17th, 2012
Q.

i am 43 and have very severe gum disease which has resulted in me losing quite a few teeth. I have, as a result lost a lot of bone and wear a partial denture. i was considering a fixed denture or implants but my dentist is not qualified in the bone grafting needed to make this option possible. it is causing me some distress now and i’m finding it hard to get the proper advice. could you explain whether bone grafting and implants may be an option and how successful this process is. I am a smoker, but am taking steps to quit. Can you help?

Can I have my bridge replaced by an NHS dentist, after suffering from gum disease?

November 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi, quite a few years ago i had a bridge fitted on my bottom 3 front teeth, sme years later it has alot of build up of plauqe around it and the gums have gone down showing the two teeth either side underneath which look black. I have only just been to see my dentist today after not going for a number of years due to fear! He has told me that it has gum disease around it and is swollen but i cannot have this done on the nhs and can only have a replacement bridge done privately costing around £1300 is this right?? Many Thanks x

I have had implant for the last 7 years and suddenly they have fallen out, what could be the problem?

September 3rd, 2012
Q.

I have had implants for 6/7 years and have had regular dental visits over that period. Recently I attended a regular appointment to remove the bridges top and bottom and during the process 6 implants fell out. Is this normal – from no problems to the loss of all my upper implants? The problems had not shown up on the x-ray but it now seems that I will have to return to a denture until the bone has recovered / new bone graft and then have the entire top jaw re done. Have I had appropriate ongoing treatment. It feels to me that the implants should have a longer life and if it has been caused by infection should that not have been picked up and treated in time to avoid the loss of my entie upper jaw implants all at once.

I have periodontal disease, but would really like dental implants

June 1st, 2012
Q.
hello i have really, really bad periodontal disease and my gums have receded heavily. I am going to my doctor soon to have all my teeth removed and he wants me to have a denture but i really like the thought of dental implants. Do you think once my teeth have been removed and the disease has cleared up that i can have implants? ANd how long does that take usually? thank you for any info you can give,

Would I able to replace what I consider dead teeth for dental implants?

April 1st, 2012
Q.
Hi, i have a couple of teeth on the top row of teeth that are technically dead as they are grey and don’t feel very secure. I haven’t been to the dentist in many years so i fear that the damaged teeth may have affected the gums and possibly the jaw. I would really like to get implants to replace the dead teeth but if what i fear is true would this be an option for me as the gum and jaw might not be able to provide a stable base. many thanks for your time,

Can I replace all my teeth with implants because I have gum disease?

March 17th, 2012
Q.
Dr Moore, I am currently suffering from gum disease; it has now reached the stage where I am starting to lose teeth. I have already lost three teeth from my top jaw and have a further one now loose. I have a plate with the replacement teeth but find this denture set uncomfortable and un-hygienic, is it possible to have all my teeth replaced with permanent implants and would you please let me have an indication of the cost for this procedure. Many thanks in advance. ,

What are my options when my teeth fall out due to periodontal disease?

March 11th, 2012
Q.
Hi, I have been petrified of dentists for years so have avoided going at all costs, but over the last year i noticed the gap and gum between my top front teeth was getting bigger so i plucked up the courage to go and see my local dentist. Once there she gave me an xray and said I had periodontal disease very severe, since then I have been back for her thoroughly clean them and remove any tartar that has built up but she has now told me that chances are i am going to lose my teeth by the end of the year (they could fall out) as you can understand this has scared me as I am only 32 and she doesnt seem to be giving any form of advise as to what I can do to a) stop it getting any worse or B) if they do fall out what can be done, I understand I am with an NHS dentist but was wondering what options I would have if I went private as i dont really understand what you price list means, if you could give me any advose I would be very grateful. Many thanks ,

Implants I got years ago feel too far back. Is there a solution?

January 24th, 2012
Q.
HELP I am 58 year old female. All but my front two teeth were removed at 20years. Evidently had soft teeth not gum desease. In Hindsight bad call by old fashioned dentist. Had the TMI fitted at Canniesburn hospital in 1993, removed in 2004 and replaced with implants fixed teeth. Always felt that implants are too far to back of my mouth under my tongue. Am still struggling to accept them after 6 years. This has cost me a lot of money and am at a loss of what to do to restore my confidence. Is there a solution?,
