Are Gingival Grafts Better For Dental Implants Than Bone Grafts?

April 12th, 2015
Q.

Hi, I have two upper premolars missing and the gum has receded inwards but not upwards. There is enough bone there for implants, but my concern is that when they are placed I will have the same issue I had with the bridge I previously had there – that is of air and saliva being trapped in the gum dip above the tooth ‘shelf’ that sticks out beyond the receded gum. I have been put off bone grafting as I’m told the gum is tight and there is a high failure rate, but I wonder if gingival grafts might serve to bulk up the dip area and lessen the shelf that will be created by the implant teeth? Thank you.

Should my bone structure be worse if a tooth that should’ve been there isn’t?

February 22nd, 2011
Q.
Hi, I\’m missing my second pre molar due to it not growing through when my last baby tooth came out when i was 21. I am 2 months in to braces and I\’m curious as to how long I should wait before I look into consultations? I am aware my teeth will need to be in their fixed positions before treatment can go ahead. I\’m also curious as to whether bone structure is generally worse or better for not having an adult tooth there in the first place? My first molar next to my missing tooth was removed a few years ago, but my second molar is going to be moved into it\’s place. Could this movement help with the bone stucture?,
