Will smoking effect chance of implant survival?

Q. Is smoking something that will not only harm implant if I was to do so when the thing was being implanted, or is smoking still likely to cause damage if I do so when the implant has been in for a while? I know that generally smoking is not a good thing but what effect will it have on implant?
A. both, smoking effects the initial healing and risks the long term stability due to decreasing the vascularity of the mucosa amongst other things
