Will smoking a few cigarettes harm dental implant?

September 17th, 2010
Q.
I am a smoker and have just had two implants. Bone has been grafted for a third. Despite the fact that I have been warned strongly and have read about all the danger of smoking, I find I am still sneaking one or two a day. Trying to stop completely seems impossible and I am wondering if it is possible to have a couple a day or if I am just kidding myself. The tension of it all is dreadful.

Do dental implants look just like real teeth?

September 17th, 2010
Q.
I know I can expect a good level of pain following the implant procedure but what I am mainly concerned with is just how natural the thing will feel. I am getting one implant and an attached crown. It will obvisouly take some time to get used to it but will it really look and feel just like a normal tooth? I just don’t like the idea of having something quite so alien in my mouth!

Can dental implant be reattached?

September 17th, 2010
Q.
Over the past year I have had three dental implant put all, all of which was performed under IV sedation. Everythin was fine until a week ago when one of the implants began to feel a bit strange, not exactly sure that is the right word but thats what it was. And then, the attached tooth became losse and has now fallen off! I know I will need to get an appointment but why did this happen? Can the tooth that has fallen out be attached again?

Is there an age limit for dental implants?

September 17th, 2010
Q.
What age do you have to be to get a dental implant? I am only fourteen but have had to have three teeth removed, my permanent teeth. Now, dental implants seem like the best option but am I old enough to go with or is the bone not fully formed or something like that?

Can I get implants for permanent tooth that didn’t erupt?

September 17th, 2010
Q.
Toward the back of my mouth there are two gaps where permanent teeth just didn’t come through after my baby teeth fell out. After x-rays it was discovered there wasn’t even any permanent teeth waiting to come through. What I now want to know is if I can get dental implants for this area? Will the bone be okay?

Should I go for implants or braces first?

September 17th, 2010
Q.
Four years ago I had to have a tooth completely removed due to decay and due to the fact that the root canal treatment I had to help fix it only worsened the thing and it had to go. Now I wondering if I would be able to get a dental implant but would really like to get braces as well. Which would I be better off getting done first?

How much will the dental implant procedure hurt?

September 17th, 2010
Q.
I am seriously thinking about getting implants to make up for the gap where two teeth are missing in my mouth. I am sure I read somewhere that having gaps is not all that good for the jaw? The surgery does not sound all that nice what with drilling, so I was hoping you could alleviate my fears a bit? What about pain afterwards, when the sedation wears off?

How long does dental implant last?

September 17th, 2010
Q.
How long does the dental implant procedure typically last? I am in need to two dental implants so I guess that must have some bearing on how long it will last? Could you also tell me how long it will take for the sedation to wear off after the procedure? Will the sedation just be around the mouth meaining numb lips and stuff?
