Is it best to insert implant in same sitting as where tooth is extracted?

Q. Dear Dr Fahey, Is it best to insert an implant in the same sitting as a tooth is extracted or, is it preferable to wait for a period of time before having an implant placed. I am aware that in either case it would be preferable to wait several months before fitting the abutment and loading the implant. Kind regards,,
A. Hi Tony, It depends on several things but I prefer to place on the same day if possible. However, many people do not have the right circumstances for placement on the same day, i.e. infection, need bone/ soft tissue grafting etc… and they would be seen any time from 6-12 weeks after the extraction. Any time longer than this and in 99% of cases the situation becomes less advantageous. Hope that helps Nick
