Can I Get Implant Treatment on the NHS?

July 4th, 2015
Q.

Hi Kalpesh, unfortunately my situation isn’t great. I haven’t taken enough care of my teeth over the last year or so and as a result they’re not in good shape. Aside from being worn down, they are also really crooked so my mouth does not look pleasant at all. I’ve been doing some research and as far as I can see I have 2 main options. I could have the bad teeth removed on the NHS and then pay for a brace with a private orthodontist, or have them taken out and get a full set of dental implants. Is this correct? Ideally I’d like to know how much this would all cost. Would I be able to receive free or discounted treatment as I am currently 25, fresh out of university and don’t have a job?

Can I Have Braces With My Dental Implant?

February 3rd, 2015
Q.

Hi Dr Fahey. Just a quick question. Is there any way I can have braces with my dental implant? I understand it won’t move that tooth at all but I’m worried that the braces may cause it to come loose or damage the crown which is on top of the implant. Have you known this to happen before? I would just love some general ideas before I visit my dentist for a consultation, so I know what to talk about when when I go to visit him. Thank you for your time in advance and I hope you don’t think this is a stupid question. Thanks!

Should I use braces or implants to close a gap in my smile?

January 23rd, 2013
Q.

I would like to have implants on my bottom row where I have four teeth missing ( two on the left and two on the right side of my mouth, the spaces are in the same location). I am also considering having braces to close the gaps between my lower teeth (on the bottom row). Can these treatments be undertaken one after the after and if so in what order? Can these treatments be done at the same time during the period that the implants are healing? Can braces be attached to teeth that have had implants, or should this be avoided? What would your recommendation be? Also as a result of the missing teeth, the tooth in the upper level has grown longer as if it is trying to fill the lower space. How will this be corrected when replacement teeth have been implanted; is this undertaken during the implant procedure?

Do implants have to be replaced at any stage and what about cleaning practise?

December 9th, 2012
Q.

Hi,

I am nineteen years old and have recently had an implant fitted but the tooth has not been screwed in just yet and I am still currently wearing a denture.

Through out my journey, I have had around four different dentists, and I’m starting to get a little confused. When I ask them questions, they tend to ignore the question and say you don’t need to worry about that just yet. That makes it worse, and I worry more.

I have quite a few unanswered questions and I’m sorry if you feel bombarded. Firstly, do implants have to be replaced? Secondly, am I able to have braces after the implant has been fitted to correct spacing between the teeth surrounding the implant. Thirdly, will the implant need cleaned at any point?

Thanks
