Why am I Still Having Problems 6 Weeks After Treatment?

Q.
Hi Dr Glover. I recently had an implant retained denture, and was aware that they take quite a long time to get used to. It’s been 6 weeks and I’m still struggling. I gag when I eat and my gums keep bleeding, and my mouth feels sore. I have made an appointment with my dentist for two weeks time but I’d just like a bit of advice before I go. Why do you think I’m still having problems?
A.
Hello, thanks for your question. It’s difficult for me to say without seeing your X-rays, but if you’re only at the denture stage then you’ll see an improvement once the implants are attached to the denture. Make sure you mention your gums bleeding when you see your dentist as it is very important to get that sorted out. Hopefully they will give you a mouthwash or antibiotics depending on how severe it is. Good luck.
